On May 23, 2025, the UAE recorded its hottest May temperature since 2003, reaching 50.4°C in Al Shawamekh, Abu Dhabi, at 2:30 PM, according to the National Centre of Meteorology. This follows the country’s hottest April on record, with a daily average high of 42.6°C. The early onset of such extreme temperatures highlights the growing intensity of heatwaves, likely driven by global climate change.
To address the rising heat, the UAE has introduced several protective measures. The midday break policy, active from June 15 to September 15, bans outdoor work from 12:30 PM to 3:00 PM. Authorities have also set up over 6,000 cooling rest stations for delivery workers. Residents are urged to stay hydrated, avoid peak sun exposure, and wear light clothing to reduce heat-related risks.
